Faulty page-turning

My 2-year-old Kobo Touch has developed 2 most tiresome faults.

First of all, the page-turning is slow -- there is a pause of a couple of seconds after stroking the screen before the page actually turns.

Secondly, after one has read about 4 'screens,' the Kobo insists on turning one back to the 1st of the 4 screens.

All of the books are on my hard disc, and I can perfectly well do a reset and re-install the books, but it does trouble me that this is happening at all. I may have about 40 books on the device, but I understood when I bought it that it could cope with 1,000+ books, so this is disappointing.

All of the books on the device are formatted in ePub.

Seems that it might be a problem with just that one book. Is it happening with all of your books?

Could be a problem with dust etc blocking the IR sensors around the edge of the screen. Canned air is good for removing any debris.

I second ShellShock's suggestion. If a tiny particle got wedged next to the frame, it could cause the problems you're having. Use canned air or a soft-bristled brush and clean around the frame.

Or it's possible it's a poorly formatted book as well. Try it with other books and see if the sluggishness is on all books or just that one.

I'd try both of those before resorting to a reset.

Definitely check for dust in the IR sensors first, but I don't think there's any big deal about having to rebuild the database once in a while. I hear that you can do it by just logging out of your account on the e-reader, then logging back in again. No need to re-install current firmware that way as would be necessary with a full reset to factory defaults.

Thank you all, and, though I may speak too soon, a basic re-set seems to have cured the patient. Incidentally, I was unable to re-set the K.T. with it powered off, which is Kobo Help's recommendation. Once the device was powered back on, the re-set worked (it seems) perfectly.
