Mac book Pro - Hangs when I try to add books

I have just installed Calibre on a new Macbook Pro. I have moved my library from Windows machine to Macbook pro local drive.

Calibre opens and seems to work fine. If I add books "from a single directory" it works fine. However if I try to add books using "from directories, including subdirectories..." it hangs and the little pinwheel spins indefinitely.

I have made sure that Calibre is working from the applications directory and not the .dmg file.

I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

How indefinitely does it spin, and how big is your library? Importing all of that can take a really, really long time, and while Calibre's setting up the import it does appear to hang completely.
