PennyArcade is an editor-in-the-making!

Hi folks. I just got my Kindle Paperwhite today, and I love it! My first book is a review copy that was gifted to me by an independent author - I'm really surprised at the high quality of the display. Even though there's so much light, it doesn't feel anything like reading from my iPad (which is what I'm used to). I'm so disappointed that it took me this long to put my faith into e-ink!

I'm currently studying a Bachelor of Arts in which my major is professional writing and publishing. My minor is Chinese (Mandarin) and I'm consider a double-major in politics or philosophy later in my degree. I'd ideally love to work with a major publishing house as an editor for back-catalogue OCR scans; I feel like there's a real market gap.

I think that so far, the best thing about my Kindle has been the ability to knit while I read.

G'day!

G'day!

I think your educational goals are awesome. We need more people getting involved in publishing, and I like your interest in publisher's back catalogs. So far, much of the back-catalog material published in e-book format is filled with sloppy formatting and disastrous conversion errors.

PennyArcade to the rescue!

Hi Morganucopia,

I know exactly what you mean - I'm in the process of (slowly, ever slowly, within my dismal student budget) purchasing electronic copies of all of my paper books, and there are either massive gaps in back-catalogue e-publishing, or a very clear lack of editing during the format-shifting process!

I'm not running out of things to read, though - I'm a big fan of a lot of independent publishing (once I manage to dig through the erotica and genericism...), but I've seen that a lot of them could do with some editing. A clean up of the grammatical and syntactical errors would be more than enough! Hmm, perhaps another market to fill...
