Saving book info without the books?

Hey everyone, my question for this evening is:

When transferring books from one actual library to another, and selecting 'Delete files after copying', how would I get it to keep the .opf files so that if I were to add dupes by accident, it will alert me?

I know that I could perhaps just copy the books without deleting them, then after they were transferred, I could 'Remove all books of a particular format', but is this the only way? Also, will it still preserve the metadata even if the books themselves are not present?

Don't delete the books - if you do, the book folders and everything in them will be sent to the recycle bin

It wouldn't because you deleted the books - so there is nothing in the database, nor any book folders.

if (something == nothing) always returns false

If you remove the format files then calibre does as its asked, it will send the designated format files to the recycling centre and leave everything else alone - and it will update the database to remove the 'notional tag' for the format you deleted.

Now as to what happens if you add the book back - try it and see for yourself, there maybe be some settings adjustments required - my expectation is that it wont warn you about duplicates

But I've been wrong before and I will be wrong again - “To err is human; to really foul things up requires a computer.”

It will warn you if you add a dupe and put the dupe in the database

Just do as 2 steps:
Copy to Library (NO delete)
<leaving the books selected>
Remove ALL Formats of selected books.
