				Title changes not working

I'm confused and I hope this is right place to put this. I'm using a Kindle Keyboard w/special offers wi-fi only that I've had for a little over a year. I always change the titles of books in a series to, the series name, series number, and then book title. I have never had a problem doing this in Calibre and then importing the books to my Kindle and having the titles show up the correct way, until yesterday. Yesterday half of titles I altered didn't show up right on my Kindle after I sent them over and I did everything the way I normally do. I usually click on a book in my Calibre library, click on edit metadata and change what I need to that way. I'm using 0.9.28 today and the former update yesterday and this happens with both. I'm running Widows Vista. Any thoughts? |

Do you edit manually or do you download metadata and let Calibre do it automatically?

I edit manually. It seems to only happen with mobi files and only as recently as the beginning of April. I had no problems changing the titles of mobi files manually before that.

Are you talking about using a plugboard to add the series name to the title when you transfer the files to your kindle? If you are be, aware that a plugboard will not work if the Mobi file contains the new KF8 format and the old mobi format. Last edited by alanHd; 05-02-2013 at 02:21 PM. Reason: Typo |

I don't know what a plugboard is. I have been using 'add books' to add the books to calibre then highlighting the book I wish to change, right click and choose edit metadata individually then I change the title manually and add tags and save. This used to work for all book formats but now it doesn't work for mobi unless I have calibre convert the file to mobi anyway, then it transfers over to my Kindle. |

Ok at which point does the title not save right. Is it when you edit the metadata and save in Calibre. or is it when you transfer the book. If its when you transfer are you expecting to see the title as "Series - 1 - Book Title" |

The title looks fine in Calibre after I edit it, it's after I transfer the book to the Kindle the title goes back to what it was before I edited it. ex. original, Warm Bodies edited, Warm Bodies - 1 - Warm Bodies On the Kindle it goes back to the original. |

I hook my Kindle to the computer by a usb cord, click on the books I want transferred, and hit 'send to device'.

@talia - I just wanted to be sure you weren't using an obscure 'unapproved' transfer method. But Send to Device is an 'approved' way to do the transfer. More Silly Questions Is the book already on the Kindle with the 'original name' ?

What happens if the Kindle is full? BR[/QUOTE] BR, -The books are not already on the Kindle. Some I get from the publishers web site in mobi format and some I get from Amazon. The ones from Amazon I download to my desktop Kindle reader. -The books were never on my Kindle with the 'original name'. -I do sometimes update the covers and again before April I had no problems but now sometimes it doesn't work or the book has two covers. That's a minor issue though because the Kindle Keyboard only has a list view. -I just cleaned out all my read books so the Kindle is less than 2/3 full right now, it was getting kind of logy. |

Your mobi files are probably joint mobi 6/KF8 files, for which metadata updating is not supported. Either convert them to azw3 or plain mobi, check under MOBI Output in the conversion dialog for mobi type and make sure it is "old". Convert and send to your Kindle. And if you are resending previously sent files, delete the original from your Kindle, unplug the Kindle, let it realize the files have been deleted, reconnect and then send. |
