Reinstall software: only with Kobo Desktop?

Maybe I've played too much with my device, maybe Calibre have done some mess... anyway, since my Kobo hanged up definitively, I've done a factory reset. Now I'm restoring the software with the Kobo Desktop, but I'm asking if there's a way to install the firmware without using the Desktop at all.

PS: I want also to downgrade to 2.4, I have only to sideload the 2.4 upgrade, right?

PPS: I have no found the way to do a factory reset on the Kobo site if the device software is not accessible, I had to search this forum and even here there's no FAQ or tip entry...

Yes. If you are now on the reset firmware, copy the content of the upgrade zip to the .kobo directory. If you are on 2.5.0 or 2.5.1 you can do the same, but there might be a problem with the database. I downgraded in this was from 2.5. to 2.4, but replaced the newly created database by my backup of the 2.4.0 database, since after the upgrade to 2.5.0 and sync (both by wifi), the database was broken anyway. Therefore I don't know whether a proper 2.5-database would cause trouble under 2.4.

Thank you I had no problems with the db, probably because I had no books on device yet. Fortunately I backed up all the annotations before the crash.
