Is it possible Convert/Save to disk in one step without storing a file type
UPDATE: SOLVED - see post #10.
Is it possible to convert and save to disk on ONE STEP? Problem/Use: I prefer to store most of my books in a single format -epub. This format typically is the smallest file size and thus uses less storage space. With a LOT of entries, this is the best thing for me. HOWEVER, I want to send some books to my Persona Docs as mobi's for use in my Kindle also. So far, I find I have to: 1- convert to mobi. Then, 2- Save to Disk (which also modifies the metadata via plugboards). Then, 3- I email the files. Then, 4- I go back and delete the mobi noting in Calibre that it is available via my Kindle personal docs (which I will eventually delete at some point). This is something I'm just beginning to do. It does not apply to all books, but I'm finding it a little tedious to do all the steps. So, is there a way to do a straight Save to Disk/Convert simultaneously to a format that isn't already there? If not, @Kovid, could this option be created easily, particularly in a manner that is one step and doesn't need modification from the saved conversion preferences other than choosing a new format? No, and it has come up before.
calibre, by design, stores all your converted formats, under the theory that using up more disk space is better than having to repeatedly re-convert to the same format. I do not anticipate this changing. |

Ah, OK. Thank You.
I wasn't aware this has come up before, but now that I am doing more with the Kindle system and my docs I can see how many would have asked this. So far I've only used my own reader and the epub, but it seems I can only find a way to download notes/annotations from Kindle. It would be a sweet option though. Particularly since the converted file would be a one time "disposable" to another device eventually deleted and not a back-and-forth thing requiring repeated conversion. |

This is where a facility to chain together several operations into a single 'work flow step' would be useful.

There are times I would love to be able to automatic repetitive Calibre tasks!

I don't use it myself, but maybe the Save to Format plugin can help?

I use the Save to Format plugin and it works great for me. I like to keep a separate PDF (I chose PDF for this because of the thumbnails) on my computer. In Calibre I keep only epub. It converts, saves, and I chose to have it automatically delete the PDF immediately but that isn't necessary

Well, I guess the plugin fills whatever niche need there is.
![]() (So it is even less likely that calibre itself will do that.) |

Wow..Thank You!! THAT did it. I would never have known about this based on the plug-in name alone. I've tested, and it works just as if I'd done it myself. It does use the plugboard operation too since it utilizes Save to Disk.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
