Question about what is saved when purchasing from Kobo Bookstore

I haven't done this yet from the reader since I don't want the info saved if that's the case, so my question:

If I make a purchase directly from the Glo at Kobo Books, do you need to enter your CC/billing info each time? Or if you save that info in your Kobo account online, can you just click and the purchase happens billing to what you have registered with Kobo?

My concern is only about losing the reader, if anyone else can just pick it up and purchase books charged to your account.

When I buy from my ereader I don't enter any information at all, so it must save the CC number and whatnot.

I've never purchased directly from my reader, but surely Kobo asks if you'd like it to remember credit info.

Or not.

I'm pretty sure it is using the information associated with your account on the Kobo web site

So if I ever take the Kobo out of the house, it might be prudent to clear saved info on my Kobo account. I always prefer buying my books through my PC so I have them in one place anway.

But is there any kind of password or PIN that you can use to secure the device against purchases if it is stolen?

I don't much like the idea of carrying a device about with unrestricted access to purchasing content!

I haven't found one yet, but I'm a pretty new user. I wouldn't be so worried about it with a security feature like that if there is one.

No there is no security feature to lock it from buying. However, you need to realize that they can only buy content to use on the device they have stolen (they'd need your password to get any content off it). Realistically when was the last time you heard of anyone stealing books? They can't (easily) get into your account details without a password even if they have your device.

If you chose Paypal as your payment of choice in the online store then they won't let you buy from your reader. I decided to switch over to this just in case I lost my reader.

I think there are a lot of people that would be in favor of a PIN just to power up the reader, Let alone buy things.

If my device went missing, and I was worried that someone might buy books on it, I'd just change my password on the account from my computer. The old stored password on the device would fail.

While I was in school, one of my collection of odd jobs was working in a book store. We had one young lady who stole quite a few books before she was caught. A mystery addict. Sadly, she was also one of our better customers but when we realized she was doing a "buy two, steal one" pattern, we had to ask her not to shop there anymore. As a small independent bookstore, the owner couldn't afford much shrinkage.

Regards,
David

Except that in some cases, depending where I go, it could be another 8 hours before I get home. Even if I could make it back to my computer within 2 hours, which is probably the best scenario, that leaves a big enough window to do some serious book purchasing.

Ha, ha, you ask this about stealing books when I just last night finished reading "The Book Thief", LOL! I'm thinking if someone stole a reader, they might well be interested in stealing some books on someone else's dime! Yes, they wouldn't own them, and they would only be around while the device continued working, but some folks only read a book once and wouldn't care about that. I could dispute any charges if the device got stolen and books purchased, but that's a hassle. I realize that changing the account password should put paid to any purchasing activity by the thief. But, one isn't always near one's computer when disaster strikes. I would hate to be on vacation, have the device stolen and not be able to change my password to prevent purchases! Really, it shouldn't be a hard feature to implement to require a PIN to make purchases. At any rate, there will be no problem here, I simply set up a dummy account this morning and hooked my Aura to that.
