Do I need to select Connect to Computer for Kobo to charge through my laptop or will it charge without selecting that?

Are there other ways to charge it other than through a laptop?

Yes, it will charge. You can also use any of the USB chargers that exist.

if i am not updating my books or loading on i do not connect i press cancel and it still charges perfectly

Any USB charger can be used to charge your reader. As soon as it plugs in to a computer or appropriate wall charger that message screen pops up so it isn't in response to a data link, it just senses power on the line, not an actual computer. If you want to charge and read just select cancel and continue on reading.

If you live in North America Kobo has a nifty little cube charger which also comes with a 4ft long USB cord. Input is 120-240 volts 50/60 Hz, outputs 1 amp at 5 volts so you can also use it to charge other USB devices. It is a bit less than 1.5" on each side, slightly rhomboidal; the plug prongs fold up for storage and it has a standard USB port. It could be used in Europe but you would need a plug adaptor, something with an unpolarized NEMA 1-15 Female side, the male side suitable to the standard of the country (Europe may be unified, but they have a variety of electrical socket standards ).

Yes, there are still a lot of old power sockets in Europe, gradually phasing out. Eh, you cannot change all the electrical connectors in a single night

Nevertheless, the new ones are all compatible with CEE7 and the Europlug.

Kobo Touch on charge through your laptop (on a regular basis)?
Will it effect the life of the Kobo Touch battery?
And why doesn't Kobo Touch have a fan outlet for its CPU?

Overnight is fine. That's how I normally charge mine.
As for no fan outlet: a) there is no fan so no no need for an outlet, because b) it's a pretty small and low powered CPU that I'm not sure you could actually get it to heat up to any degree so no need for a fan or outlet. Same as a cell phone. .

There will be no issues with leaving the device plugged in to a charger. The battery management will make sure it isn't overcharged.
