Last stable firmware?
I'm finding the latest firmware 2.4 to be ... problematic. ePubs that worked fine before now send the screen to solid black, then bounce back to the Home screen.
I'm thinking I'll need to do a reset, then update the firmware again. What's the generally-agreed most stable release of relatively recent firmwares? |

I think others have found that a reset of the database solved issues like this for 2.4.0.

I mean the reset done by a logout on the device; Settings | Account | SIGN OUT
This has the effect of leaving the firmware as is, but dropping the sqlite database on the device, and removing the Adobe Authorization and Facebook Account info. If you save the .adobe-digital-editions directory and it's contents before the signout, you can restore it afterwards and avoid having to redo the ADE setup. |

Peter is referring to logging out on the device. That replaces the current database with a new empty on and restarts the device. Then you log in and do the basic setup. The advantage is that it doesn't wipe the user partition so that you don't have to reload any sideloaded books. There is a good chance that this will solve the problems you are seeing.

Thanks David and Peter, I appreciate that. Good to know in future when things go pear shaped.

Ta from me as well.
I hadn't encountered anything like this before — not even on the dreaded 2.0 update. |

Nope, didn't help.
And with FW 2.4, you can't (at least, I couldn't) log out and log back in again. It requires connecting to the Kobo desktop and setting everything up from scratch. So: wha was the last stable firmware, again? |

We never said you could log in again; yes.... it WILL require you to redo setup but you do not have to go through firmware upgrades again.
Most people find that that solves their issues with faulty books ![]() |

2.4.0 and 2.3.2 have both been 100% rock solid for me. 2.3.1 and 2.1.5 were a bit flakey at times.

No, it hasn't, but thanks for the suggestion.
![]() I did log out once on the 2.0 update, but I could log back in on the device itself. Now, even though I've connected with the Kobo Desktop and let it go through its (incredibly slow!!) machinations and "ejected" the device when all was done, the device on rebooting still says I'm not logged and wants me to reconnect to the Kobo Desktop. I seem to be stuck in a loop. 2.4 seems unreiiable to me. No-one wants to suggest what might be a stable firmware? Pleaser? ![]() P.S. I don't think the book is faulty. It works fine on both Sigil and ADE. |

And the reason that logging out and back in often solves the problem is that it rebuilds the database that the Kobo is working off, so even if the book works fine on Sigil and ADE, it (or records related to it) may be screwed up in your Kobo database which is why it isn't working. |

Thanks robko, and yes I understand that.
But I'm still left with the question of what to upgrade *to*. If I remember correctly, my machine came with 1.7. I've had no problems prior to 2.4, so do I assume 2.4 isn't a great update, or just that something happens to have gone wrong now? You see my perspective, surely? So far, for me, 2.4 hasn't scrubbed up well. |

The problem you are going to run into is how to avoid the automatic updates when you redo the setup after any reset.
Kobo Desktop will upgrade itself to the current version when run. In turn, it will also push the current f/w to your device during the setup. You could before the device disconnects delete the upgrade files from the .kobo directory; ie manifest.md5sum, KoboRoot.tgz and the entire upgrade folder, and then replace them by the version you want to use. |
