Calibre in XP
My pc is only XP but I have used Calibre successfully on it in the past. Had version 8.69 which no longer worked, loaded up but although Icons loaded and with mouse gave description they did't do anything. So installed latest version, same problem. Tried turning off virus checker, no difference. Any ideas?

I hope you get an answer from the experts here. You probably will.
I can only say that your problem is not related to Windows XP. I upgraded to the latest version yesterday (0.9.24), and it runs fine under XP. Mike |

How frustrating.....though I'm with Mike L, I have XP and use the latest version of Calibre with no problem. Perhaps a corrupted download file? You might try an uninstall and then redownload and install fresh (proper version, etc). Good Luck! When you get it figured out, please post the information -- we XP people need to stick together!
Also, try posting in the Calibre forum... |

@Gandalf31
Have a look in the Manual, starting here - http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq.html#miscellaneous Its probably another program 'interfering', some are identified in the manual. Most anti-virus programs are actually OK these days, unless you have very aggressive settings. Its almost certainly another program in your start up, possibly one that you don't even know is there. The only way to find the 'culprit' is via a process of elimination. Sometimes the 'culprit' program will have a place where you can exclude other programs or directories from its operations - e.g Roboform. Sometimes you don't need it to run all the time anyway - eg the Logitech configuration utility can be run from the control panel when you need it, but given half a chance it will inveigle its way into your startup programs and run all the time. Please let us know the outcome, so that the manual can be updated if you find something new. BR |

Might be worth while to find the calibre settings folder and either rename it temporarily, or delete it; either case calibre will recreate the folder the next time it is run.
