Doom - another daft question from JT

So, a friend of mine, when shown my iLiad did the usual "wow, incredible screen" etc. etc. After the initial reaction, the first thing he asked was "can it run Doom?"

My answer was - "it's got a screen, hasn't it? of course it'll run Doom"

Has anyone run Doom on their iLiad? Obviously it wouldn't be very sporty, but it's more the principle of the thing...

I had tried it at one point, but wasn't able to get past the first screen.

I thought I had a screenshot, but I wasn't able to find it.

Anyway, the screen would be too slow, so what's the point?

To paraphrase George Mallory, "because it's Doom"

I've run doom - at some point, not always playably and sometimes in ascii-mode - on all the computing devices I've ever owned, from my very first PC, to my PDA to my mobile phone. Doom (and/or Quake) is the single most reliable way of testing gfx and networking hardware in Windows pre-2000 that I've found.

Doom runs on just about anything: digital cameras, mp3 players, lottery machines, calculators etc, etc.

There used to be a site called itplaysdoom.com, but it seems to be gone these days. Archive.org have a copy

Right but once again, the iLiad screen is too slow to refresh. The ARM CPU is probably able to run the software but the screen won't follow.

All the devices you list use a LCD device with at least 50-60 Hz refresh rate. Except maybe the HP48 but this port runs with no texture and optimised algorithms.

An idea I just had: a round-by-round game would be perfect. Why not porting Micropolis, aka Sim City that was recently relicensed under the GPL?

I did say in my first post that I wasn't expecting it to be playable. Obviously it won't be playable, it's the principle of the thing.

If I want to actually play Doom, I can do that on my mahoosively powerful desktop PC.
