So I'm kind of confused about this. It says use a low setting for dark rooms and in brightly lit rooms use a high setting. Shouldn't it be the other way around. In dark rooms, the brightness should be higher, right? That's what I do.

Just use it whatever way works best for you, and don't pay attention to their recs.

No. In dark rooms, you don't need a bright light. In daylight, you need a bright light to show up above the ambient lighting.

As booklover6 said, do as you please
![]() I tend to agree with the "recommendations" though. In a brightly lit room, or outside, the front light has to be turned up for the Kindle to still appear white (instead of gray). Conversely, at night in a completely dark room, high light settings will be disturbingly bright (to the point of being blinding), while low settings are easy on the eyes and still provide sufficient contrast to read. |

I always leave mine on at setting 9. In a dark room, you definitely do not need it very bright. For one, it does disturb my significant other if I am reading in bed. For another, as was previously stated, a bright light at night would be too harsh for these old eyes of mine.

I like 3-4 in a really dark room. I find if it is brighter than that it is hard on my eyes.
In a brighter room, I will often change it to 12. |

I leave mine on 8 at all times but I think I have a PW that has a really bright light. So maybe my 8 is others 10.

I put mine on maximum 2 in the night and not more than 8 during the day which in India usually means sunny. I also found that more than 2 in the dark room is painful for my eyes and I neither enjoy reading nor would I be able to read longer than few minutes.

I leave mine at 0 if at all possible, as they slightly-brighter patch at the bottom annoys me to the point of sever anger! Even at 0 the light isn't "off", so sometimes I can still make out the bright patch. Why oh why they couldn't just give us an option to turn it completely off?

Because after watching the Amazon promo of the PW I was expecting it to be uniform white all over, not with annoying bright patches. And I use the light if I have to, i.e. if my girlfriend is lying next to me trying to sleep.

I also sometimes, though not often, put my PW on 0, when the room is completely dark or I feel very tired but still want to read a bit more. |

I have had my PW for only 10 days but here is what I've found comfortable so far: level 6 in dark rooms, level 24 when I use it in daylight, and level 12 anywhere else.
