Do you see ads on your kindle as a real negative?

That is a really weird poll. There should be nobody saying that they hate seeing the ads. The ones that hate them so much can simply get rid of them by paying. And everybody else with ads either doesn't care, or does not see it worth the money to get them removed. In both cases the ads cannot be that distracting, or you would do something and pay for a non-discounted Kindle.

I don't have ads on my Kindles, which means they cost more, but I did put the ads on when that option was available. I looked at them for a week and didn't find them disturbing. The type on many was so small I couldn't read them but it didn't bother me.

I have to agree that this is a silly poll. It's a user's personal choice whether or not to buy a Kindle with ads. Why would you buy one if you hated the ads?

I answered no, but that's on the K4.
On the Paperwhite, I would not want them, or the auto wake function would not work.

I manage 3 kindles with Calibre: mine, my husband's, and my son's. I paid for no ads on my Paperwhite, but husband and son both have the SO versions. Since they rarely turn on their wifi, they don't have the ads, only a small notice on the screen saver to turn on wifi to see the special offers.

So - if you don't like ads on your kindle, but can't afford the extra bucks to turn them off, just never use the wifi on your kindle, and you won't see them after a few weeks or so.

I don't hate them. Though I can't tell if they would be a problem. I did pay for an ad-free device, but not caused by hate...

They don't bother me at all. I have a SO PW and I don't even notice the ads when I turn it on. I guess it is something I have gotten used to seeing.

I've had a SO-paperwhite untill I recieved a Non-SO replacement. I thought it was very nice of Amazon to remove the ads for free, but I wouldn't have mind an other SO-PW. I don't mind the ads.

I happen to really dislike the ads, but only because of the TYPE of ads. The mere concept of ads is really not an issue for me -- they don't show unless you're not using the Kindle, or show in a tiny strip on the library list view. But . . . I am a religious Jew and cannot accept some of the innappropriate ads I have gotten. This amounts to de facto religious discrimination, because a Kindle would cost more for me (for basic useabililty I mean) than if I weren't religious.

So I called up Amazon to discuss the problem and they kindly unsubscribed me for free.

Of course, I only did this since I both
a) would never pay for ad removal for any other reason
b) had already bought my Kindle BEFORE I knew inappropriate ads would be displayed.

I paid for ad removal from my paperwhite so I could take advantage of the auto wake going right back to my book. I still have ads on my Touch. They are fine. I would rather not have them, but not planning to buy out of them.

Real life scenario where this would ABSOLUTELY cause me annoyance is if my Rebbeim (teachers in Jewish Talmudical study) see my Kindle lying around and say, "Hey, what's that over there??"
