Wifi and CompactFlash
I've seen a few topics that speak of a bug in the iLiad when using Wifi while accessing the Compact Flash card. Is there someone that can tell me more about this?
The reason I ask this is because my "storage-strategy" depends heavily on CF and I am wondering now if I better change this. |

There are two issues with CF cards that I'm aware of. Note, I don't use a CF card with my iLiad, so I'm going on what I've read on here, not direct experience.
1) Wifi access is very slow when transfering files to the CF card. iRex have said that they are aware of the bug. 2) Some people have reported that when they try to transfer files via USB to a CF card in the iLiad, they get data corruption. I don't think this bug is well understood at the moment. It doesn't seem to happen to everyone, and I'm not sure if anybody has narrowed down the exact circumstances that will cause it to happen. I haven't seen any mention of it from iRex. IMO, the safest/fastest way to get data on to a CF card for the iLiad at the moment is to use an external card reader attached to your PC. Hopefully, iRex will fix #1 above with a firmware update. I think #2 requires more investigation at the moment to figure out exactly what is going wrong for some people. |

I think I could look into adapting the "background connection script" to copy files for cf first to eg. mmc. Then after wifi-link-close move the files to cf. What do you think? |

That would probably work. I transfer via wifi to my SD (aka MMC) card and it works fine. The speed problem seems to just affect the CF cards.

The newspaper download from iRex IDS is fast AND to cf. I wonder if iRex introduced some workaround here...
I'll investigate further ![]() |
