Hottest Piece of Software for PPC's?

What's your favorite piece of software?

Where did you find it?

What makes it invaluable to you?

For me,

E-wallet, found on www.handango.com.

Invaluable to me because I lose EVERYTHING! Everytime I needed information about my sisters clothing size, my bank information, my contact lens prescription, etc., I was always digging through the Notes section of my PDA trying to find it. Ewallet kept it all there for me. Based on categories, colors, and anything else I could find to customize it....

iSilo for me, and I've used it both on Palm OS and now PocketPC (moved from a Sony Clie T615C to an ipaq 1930 a month ago, and will never look back)

Simply put, it's got heaps of features, the creator lets you grab whatever web pages you want, and is a very reasonable price (even with the current Oz exchange rate)

PocketDOS is nice too. Lets me play angband on my device as well <g>

Regards,
Craig.

My girlfriend owns an Axim, and one of the best software toys she has is µBook.
Quote:
µBook is a simple and lean, yet powerful ebook reader for Windows and Pocket PCs that can read HTML, TXT, RTF, PDB and PRC (not secure) ebook files. It can read directly from inside ZIP files, and supports BMP, GIF and JPG images. It offers many customization options including: Portrait and Landscape display, Choice of font type, color and size, etc.... It Also has a resizable/skinnable User Interface. µBook is improving on a regular basis and best of all it's free!
I am still not sure what display is nicer to read books. A 320x480 hires Palm-based one, or a 320x240 PocketPC, the latter with bigger physical dimensions though.

I had a look at ubook, but not much of one. Maybe I should check it out again...

The display on my Clie's much crisper and cleaner for small text, but I like the Cleartype fonts on the ipaq.

How about games? Anyone got any favs? I really like the AoE for PPC. I've tried out Everquest, as I am an avid player on the desktopPC's, but just didn't enjoy it as much.

Anyone else?

I haven't tried too many PPC specific games yet, I've only had the ipaq about a month. I love rogue-like games, though, so I have nethack for PPC installed (and love it!). I also already mentioned that I'm also playing Angband (another ascii/roguelike game derived from Moria). It's an older DOS version compiled to run on 286 PC's, and runs perfectly in PocketDOS!

I'm also into emulators, so I have CastCE (atari ST) to play Dungeon Master, and also NES/SNES emulators to play all those great Nintendo games (and I have a _lot_ of ROMS )

I like the look of AoE though, and will try it I think (never played the PC version either so... I know, I know, I've been living in a cupboard for the past few years <g>)

I don't read in ubook often but I do keep it around for reading zipped txt files from time to time. Perhaps if I'm too lazy to convert it to iSilo first :-) iSilo is easily the best ebook reader I've come across so far. I so sometimes wish it could read native html but most sites convert with little or no fuss so I'm not complaining much.

Hmmm after quoting that portion of craig's post I then noticed in another more recent thread that ubook has become his favorite reader. I'd be curious as to what features really caught your eye. The interface is tough to get a grasp on at first but eventually it starts to make sense.

Hi Gatton,

Yes, I've become a committed ubook fanatic. I love the shear number of features it has. It supports many formats (rtf, html, text, doc/pdb). It has dictionary support, good support for different fonts, LANDSCAPE MODE (sadly missing from the PPC version of isilo), is skinnable (with some very nice skins available), auto-generation of table of contents, the list goes on....

It is also FREE, and constantly being upgraded. It's now my number one piece of PPC software.

BTW, the lastest version (0.8o) has a simpler interface as well (though you can still get at the advanced stuff if you want to).

Craig.

Thanks for the heads up. I haven't used it since 0.8m. Will check out the latest version tonight. I had forgot it supports rtf. I have quite a few things in that format that I hadn't gotten around to converting.

Thanks again.

Grrrr, I wish ubook was available for PalmOS as well. But then again, with the rapid emergence of new VGA PPCs, I might even be tempted to switch eventually... /me hides
