Copy the file you want to change to a pc, do all the changes there, then copy it back to Kindle.

Does kterm even run? Have you tried running sudo mntroot rw (assuming you have the root password)? Have you tried the USBNetworkLite package and using a program such as Putty to connect to your Kindle using SSH?

Also, I am beginning to doubt that you have the background or skills required to do what you want. Hint: Exactly which file located exactly where? What commands did you type? |

Sorry but I am going to have to agree with @j.p.s. that you lack the background and skills for what you are trying to do. I would suggest a bit of study and internet search before trying to modify your Kindle in ways that just might create a brick.
Where did you get the information about the file you want to modify? Was it posted in the last year? Does it apply to the firmware revision you are using? Is it the /opts/var/local/mesquite/browser/javascripts/browser.js file? Last edited by DNSB; 03-30-2025 at 03:23 PM. |

USBNetLite works for me. Installed it, entries showed up in KUAL menu, enabled it, connected the Kindle to my computer over USB, set the matching network interface on the computer to 192.168.15.201 to be in the same Class C subnet as the Kindle's interface. Opened Putty, set the address, etc. to use to 192.168.15.244, port 22, SSH and connected. Logged in with the default credentials and no problems.
I'm going to assume that you downloaded the Update_usbnetlite_1.0.P_install_khf_11thgenplus.bi n package? Installed it by copying to the MRPackages directory and then using KUAL's Install MR packages under the Helper menu item? Last edited by DNSB; 03-31-2025 at 01:11 AM. |

Installed USBNetLite and enabled it from KUAL. Connected to my computer using a USB cable (as the name suggests this is a network connection over USB). My Kindle was detected as a network device and the driver automagically installed (shows as USB Ethernet/RNDIS Gadget in Device Manager). Set the IP address of that adapter to 192.169.15.201/netmask to 255.255.255.0. Open PuTTY and connected to 192.168.15.244 using SSH. Entered the default username and password.
Code:
Ethernet adapter Ethernet 3: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.15.201 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : Code:
