Watch the skies, the Aliens are coming!
Please recommend some good books where the alien(s) invade small towns, rural areas and/or isolated places, like in the movies "The Thing" from 1982, The Blob from 1988 and Village Of The Damned from 1995.

I couldn't think of any when you posted. But, I just reread this, saw "Village Of The Damned" and of course remembered that it is based on "The Midwich Cuckoos" by John Wyndham.
For you movie choice, you might want to look for the originals of "Village Of The Damned" and "The Blob". I'm not going to say either are great movies, but they are better than the remakes. |

I don't know why I didn't think of it before: "The Puppet Masters" by Robert A. Heinlein.
I haven't read that for a while, so I checked the Wikipedia article. There is mention of "The Body Snatchers" by Jack Finney. I haven't read it, but it has been made into a movie a few times. |

Unfortunately most of the alien invasion books I've read involve world war scenarios moreso than a local community.

Everyone I have read is world spanning. Who would invade only a small rural town instead of trying to take over the world?

"The Taking" by Dean Koontz... I was disappointed with the ending, but maybe that was just me.

You'd have to read them on paper, but Zenna Henderson's "The People" stories would probably fit, technically, your guidelines.
