Navigation problems with New York Times (on PW?)
This strange thing has been happening with the NYT; when I try to turn a page forward, sometimes I'll end up on the next page of a different article, and its usually an article I've recently read. Note this is the second page of a different article, so it's not that I'm accidentally swiping "up" to the next article.
This was happening yesterday, and it wasn't the first time. Today, I can't seem to replicate the problem. Has anyone else experienced this? Or am I imagining things? Last edited by weatherman; 01-11-2013 at 10:36 AM. |

I can't say much that's usefule. I don't get the NYT. I have a Kindle subscription to the WSJ, FT and The Economist. I have had no problem navigating those (aside from the occasional 'up-swipe') on the PW.
Perhaps trying a free subscription to any of the above or any other newspapers might shed light on the issue. At least you can figure out whether your unit has problems or whether it is just a poorly formatted newspaper. |

The problem is intermittent - it was happening again yesterday with the Sunday paper. So at least I know I'm not imagining things. I guess I'll push a complaint up the line and see how they respond.

Good luck.
For as much as I see ereaders everywhere, it seems that periodicals have not yet been as widely adopted. Whenever I have posted about it, it becomes clear that we those reading newspapers on ebook readers are a niche within a niche. And, accordingly, we are often ignored. |

It really surprises me how few people read periodicals on the Kindle - for me it's the Kindle's goddamn raison d'etre! When I bought my first Kindle it cost $359, but I was paying $1.25 a day for the paper, plus $4 on Sundays, so even with the $15/mo. price for a NYT subscription the device paid for itself in a year. And after a year it was a money-saver, never mind the lack of waste or the fact that the paper was delivered every morning if I was in New York or New Orleans (or later, Neu Bartelshagen). Maybe it's just me, but I can't imagine life without NYT for Kindle.

Update on this problem: it continues to happen pretty frequently. I contacted Kindle support and they were very responsive - on several occasions they called me to get more info and to check in. I ended up sending them the "logs" of the Kindle (generated by typing ;dm in to the search bar). I've sent them multiple sets, but as of yet they don't seem to know how to solve the problem or perhaps even verify that there is a problem. The best they could do was to say that it might be fixed in the next update, but given their lack of understanding of the problem, I'm skeptical. I'm frustrated to the point of not wanting to read the NYT on my Kindle now - it happened like five times in a row yesterday and it was impossible for me to keep reading.
I've also noticed that sometimes my page-turns don't work right in when reading a book - it flashes like it has turned a page, but it doesn't turn. Does nobody else have these problems? Is it possible this is a hardware issue? I'm almost certain it was happening on my first KPW (which I returned because it had a bad screen) but maybe I'm wrong... |

I have 3 subscriptions, have never had navigation issues on my PW with any of them.
I don't think I could handle more on my PW without disrupting my other reading. The last thing I need is more reading material adding to my backlog, especially if it is of time-sensitive nature. I'd never get any other reading done. Things were a little different before the backlog grew to its current size, I thought I had time to read everything, had about 10 calibre subscriptions going, hundreds of samples, etc. No more. So mostly I use Google Reader on my tablet for 'news' stuff. 10-20 minutes a day, much easier to manage, less guilt if I can't read much of it, because I'm not paying for any of it. And with my Audible subscription I get NYT daily digest. I work that in maybe once a week, when something in the world happens. You aren't by any chance a vampire, are you? I've heard they can have issues with capacitative touch screens due to their colder than normal skin temperature and the extreme density of their undead flesh. |

I am in fact a vampire. That explains everything
![]() The issue of the page not turning is one thing, but the jumping around to different sections is really the main issue, and that cannot be a result of my vampirism since it is responding to my touch, but just not going to the right page (or article or section). I take it you don't have a sub to NYT? Does anybody else? I would ask people to test it out for me to see if we can collectively diagnose the problem, but since it's intermittant I would effectively be asking people to read the NYT pretty thoroughly for several days in a row. It happens to me usually at least once per day, but not in any consistant or reliable way (at least as I've determined it). |
