how to cancel a job safely? need to quit

i really need to disconnect my nook HD/shut down calibre but it says i can harm the device if i do. i think something is wrong with the ebook i'm trying to transfer so i want to cancel it and try again.

can i just x out of calibre?

Since the Nook HD is an MTP device, chances are you can just pull the plug. MTP devices are designed to allow that. Hoever, interrupting an ongoing process is never a good idea and should be avoided whenever possible.
