Kobo Crashes after replacing Epub, - solved
I just had this problem with firware 2.1.5. I have not, and will not, test with 2.3.1.
I recently had to replace a bad epub with a newer copy. I first deleted the book in Kobo, then connected to PC and copied the new file. However, the Kobo would crash and restart every time I tried to open the book, and continued to do so no matter what I tried to fix it, including trying a completely different copy, and erasing my Kobo Database to start a new one. The I realized that I had to give the book a new file name before Kobo would successfully open the book. Not satisfied with this workaround, I further found that the problem was a remaining annotation file in the Digital Editions/Annotations folder. That file had to be manually deleted before Kobo would let me use a different copy of the book (with the same filename.) Edit: I should note that I do not understand the exact conditions required to replicate this problem. Replacing a book is something I've done several times before. This is the first time it just refused to work. Last edited by rashkae; 12-19-2012 at 04:14 PM. |

Are you sure you did the original delete using the device? Could it have been from calibre?
I have done exactly what you describe from many times without a problem. At no time have I found that deleting the book using the device have left any files behind. And replacing it on the next connect has always worked. Deleting from calibre does not delete the annotations file. That is an oversight that I'll fix soon. But, I have never had this cause a problem when I put a new version of the file on the device. But, something has occurred to me: What changes did you make to the epub? Was it simple things like spelling or style? Or was there a structure change? By that I mean changing the names or location of the files inside the epub? Or changing the TOC? And did the book have annotations when you deleted it? |

I don't remember if the book had a bookmark when I deleted it. There would have been no other annotations. As for what changed, in this case, I replaced the epub with a completly different copy. *Everything* changed. |
