I found this service the other day; owners of the edge may find it useful. http://www.onlineocr.net/Default.aspx
You get 20 credits to start out with and I've had good results.

If you want to OCR images, there"s a free OpenSource OCR program called Tesseract. (You'll also need to download the separate GUI)

If your source files are .pdf files, you can also download Acrobat Pro 7 from Adobe for free. It's outdated, but it's built-in OCR engine works just fine.
