Ideal ebook reader/tablet
Any suggestions for an eBook reader/tablet that has the following specs:
* 64 GB (or larger) sdcard/microsdcard; * Can either directly read, or import/sideload ebooks from the sdcard; * Easy to locate a specific book, searching by author, title,Dewey Decimal/LCC #, other tag; * Can handle a 10,000+ item library; * Can read PDFs; * Can backup/restore data to a Linux box; * Books can be read whether in pitch black places, or bright sunshine, or drab grey skies and landscape; Mobi/ePub/LIT/iSilo/fb2 does not matter to me, because I can always convert ebooks to the appropriate format using Calibre. A frontlit "e-paper" screen is a requirement for your readability criteria. No such device supports a 64GB SD card.

But the frontlit Nook doesn't have an mSD slot. Any Kobo other than the mini has an mSD slot and can read a 32GB card. |

The Pocketbook Touch Lux supports a 32gb micro SDcard. You can make a backup of the system by copying the contents on your computer.

There are, however, frontlit eInk devices with an SD slot - eg the Onyx Firefly. It can use cards up to 32GB.
I'm curious why the OP needs that much. Ebooks are not large. You can easily fit 1000+ ebooks in 1GB. |

You'd be much better off using Calibre to manage and store your ebook library, in which case any of the newer front-lit e-ink readers such as the Kindle Paperwhite would be more than adequate to meet your needs.
For more information, see this article: http://www.howtogeek.com/73979/how-t...-with-calibre/ |

Must be one hell of a book to be 1GB in size! I think my largest book is about 20MB, and that's a seriously long book (an omnibus edition of half a dozen large novels).

True. I run Calibre on my Microsoft Surface Pro tablet and it works very well.

They're pretty good everywhere except direct sunlight (in which an eInk screen excels).
