How to tell if it is charging?
I am trying to charge my new Glo using the official Sony PRS 650 wall charger, but I can't tell if it is working. Is there any indication on the Glo when it is charging?
This is the only wall charger I could get to work with the PRS 650, so I would not be surprise if there is something "special" about it that stops it from working with other readers. |

With your Kobo turned on and plugged in, open any of the main menus that shows you the battery icon. If it's charging it should have a little cord/plug symbol in the middle of it.

Ah, thanks. Between the light and power buttons there is a little round...hole...thingy. So that is not a charging light?

And actually, if you give it time, the battery icon/charging indicator will come up on your cover when the Kobo is in sleep (and likely powered down) mode as well. |

I've always charged my readers on my computer with the USB cable. Why bother purchasing extra stuff like a wall charger ?

Well my computer is on most of the time anyways so It's no extra bother to use it to charge my reader and other stuff.
But out of curiosity, how long does it take with the wall charger ? |

It should take no longer to charge via a wall socket than by the computer.

It does definitely charge faster when plugged into a USB wall charger. Anybody who has tried to charge a smartphone plugged into a USB computer port vs. the USB wall charger have experienced it... Now, the Kobo battery isn't as big so the difference between wall charger and computer port won't be as dramatic but still, a USB wall charger will charge faster and is more convenient as you can plug anywhere there is a wall socket. Add on top of it that USB wall chargers can be had for a few dollars on eBay with free shipping, and it's hard not getting equipped with one since they can also be used for lots of other electronic devices. |

Put me down for the USB wall charger as well. They are between two to four times faster than charging from a pc computer port, because micro USB chargers can put out up to 1-2 amps (1000-2000ma.) It's also handy to be able to charge your reader anywhere you can plug in your phone for a charge -and for travel carry only one cable and charger.
Also, in my case, my last desktop(tower) is in my living room being used as an off air HDTV recorder, and my Lenovo X41 tablet/laptop doesn't get used nearly as often as the Android tablet upon which I'm typing this reply. On top of that almost anyone with a current generation non iPhone already has a microUSB charger or two. |

But you don't read while you charge it, the idea being that you charge it while doing other stuff (unless you read 24/7)
Don't you travel with your laptop ? As for the car plug, that one might be useful if one travels a lot and over very long distances but considering that I can read on a single charge for about 3 weeks I don't think I'll bother getting a car charger either. I'll just charge before leaving for my car trip. ![]() |

I have a question regarding wall chargers. The charger sold by Kobo for the Touch has an output of 5v ~ 2.0A. I have a charger that has an output of 5v ~ 0.7A. Would using the charger with a lower output than the charger sold by Kobo to charge the Touch cause a problem?

Lol, I don't own a laptop so if we go away, it is nice to have the ability to charge it. As for regular charging. I have 3 boys so it is a convenience. I don't always get access to the computer and usually notice I need to charge when reading while I rock one of my sons. It is simpler to just plug in before going to sleep.
