iTunes 11 delayed until November

Apple Delays Latest iTunes Upgrade

Quote:
On Tuesday, a day after a management shake-up and a month after the botched release of its Maps app drew a rare public apology from its chief executive, Apple quietly delayed the release of its latest upgrade to iTunes, saying it needed more time to “get it right.”

November...that would this year, or next year ('getting it right' will be setting a high standard for iTunes)?

I'm glad they're delaying it. There shouldn't be a schedule for when things are released. They should be released when they are done right and perform well.

Personally, I'd like to see Cook do away with the old 'schedule'. It's a new beginning, start with a clean slate.

Yeah, me either. I'm excited for the new mini player they showed off. Current one is pretty useless.

The new version is supposed to have a streamlined look and better integration with iCloud, its service for synching music and video collections.

I think he is doing exactly that, with the removing of Forstall. He was the major player in playing the game of agressive deadlines.

Deadlines for free software are unnecessary for the most part. It is one thing when you sell "boxed" software for a profit and your marketing/sales people have already promised it to your clients on a certain release date. But iTunes is just a free app that we get when we get it. I would rather it was greatly improved and bug free rather than sluggish and sucky like it is now. They should take their time and get it right, finally!

I sort of disagree that it is free software. It is essential software for the $600 iPad I bought.

Not really. You'll find that you probably will use it very rarely. The only reason I use it is for syncing to my iPod Nano actually. I haven't plugged in my iPhone 4 into it since iOS 5 was available, and that was the last time even.

Ditto, but it is still essential. Try setting up your new device without it! It is also needed to sync my iPod Classic. My point is that if your expensive hardware purchase is dependent on the software, then I don't consider it truly freeware. If I didn't need it for the hardware then I would most definitely not have it installed. I use J.River Media Center for my music library.

My point is it is already at version 10.x so you have had it since you got your iDevice. Whenever they update is really not as important as how well the update works. Like you and Jessica I rarely plug my iDevices into iTunes as quite frankly iTunes has always been sluggish and has a very poor interface. I basically use it to transfer side loaded books and get software updates.
