Problems with formatting in pdf-Kindle conversion

I am having problems with formatting in pdf-to-Kindle conversion.

When using Calibre to convert pdf files to kindle files, I get many extra line breaks that make the result hard to read. Is there some way to avoid this?

Hi. usually people post the steps they took to solve the problem.

Nothing more annoying than finding lots of references to a problem that other people have fixed and simply finding "I fixed it" as the solution

Sorry. Should have realized that others are likely having similar issues. Just as I posted the thread, at the end was a list of similar issues. One of them included a link to an article posted on the list about issues with pdf conversions. Unfortunately, I can't find the link. One item it in referred to the fact that pdf somehow sees each sentence as a paragraph and as a result some pdf conversion algorithms have trouble knowing when to insert a real paragraph and do it at the wrong time. Instead of trying to figure all of this out, I was able to use ebook as and intermediary and when I translated from ebook into mobi everything went fine.
