Wink Good Afternoon

I recently discovered this website. Posts from it have begun appearing on my Facebook page.

I just finished the latest Grisham on my SONY PRS -600 which I've owned for at least three years. I tend to read suspense, mystery, thrillers. Some of my favorite authors: Gregg Hurwitz, Michael Connelly, Robert Crais, John Sandford. I'm also a big fan of the Stieg Larrson series, found the U.S. movie version of, "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" to be a major disappointment, mostly due to Rooney Mara.

Last night I spent a lot of time on Facebook monitoring the storm, checking in to see how friends around the country were doing. I was amazed at the different degrees of impact people felt while being within only a few minutes travel of each other. And if this is any indicator of how my life currently goes, the storm wasn't even the most stressful event I was dealing with. Of course, I might feel differently if we had been more severely impacted and I'm grateful that we weren't, but not surprised.

Hi flaminga and welcome to MobileRead. We liek a lot of the same authors.

How about Lee Child? Based on your favorites, I think you'd like his Jack Reacher series.

Hello flaminga. Welcome. Hope you'll find more to read on this forum, and hope all your friends are not affected by Sandy.

Thank you for the welcomes, folks. I am still trying to figure out how to use the site tools. I usually prefer to use a colored font, but that doesn't seem to be working when I click onto it. I just see some brakcets and the word, "magenta".

In response to cassidym -- I have tried the Jack Reacher series, but just can't seem to get into those books. Maybe I'll try again sometime. I have a friend who's a big fan.

I've noticed that members have listed their various reading devices under their avatars; I neglected to mention I also have an iPad, but really find it unwieldy, so prefer using the Sony Reader.

I don't know if it's okay to bring non-reading issues up on here, I think I saw some kind of off-topic sign when looking around the site. I do have one Facebook friend from whom I've yet to hear who lives in Freehold, NJ -- and area hit hard by the storm. Another described having to walk up 15 flights of stairs to an unheated apartment and the difficulty of getting a bus out of NYC. It was very heartwarming to see pictures of the pets being rescued by Emergency Service Personnel. I think this is one of the lessons we took from Katrina.

Anyway, back to reading -- I'm currently reading THE SNOWMAN This will be my 3rd novel by Jo Nesbo. I just finished his most recent,THE PHANTOM. Who knew that this Scandinavian city (Oslo), usually so pristinely portrayed, was such a cesspool for the drug trade?

I'm not here simply in hopes of winning a new device, but want to know if there's anything that tells you that you have been entered into the contest - a verification of your submission, etc. All I've seen so far is that you need to post, stating what your favorite forum is. Any assistance any of you could offer would be most appreciated. Thanks. I hope everyone is looking forward to a good weekend.
