PRS-300 Cannot get to connect!

So I have had this for almost 2-3 years now its a PRS-300. It worked perfectly fine for awhile until I got two jobs and with school just didnt have time to use it.

Anyway, for almost 7 months I have been having issues with it. Recently, I got a new desktop so figured I would try again. I downloaded the reader library and plugging in the ereader and the device driver came up and installed it without any problem. It loads up the Reader Library but then says its not connected.

The ereader itself has the USB plugs and says "USB connected".

I have done both soft and hard resets multiple times, uninstalled and re-installed everything I can think of. I have also downloaded and installed Calibre and that even says its not connected! The reader shows up in the Devices that are connected, but it looks like just a removable harddrive.

Im at my wits end. I just want to read

Are you using the user library software that is for the prs-300? I am using Calibre and I can connect to windows 7 or windows 8 with no problem. Are you using a cable that is only for USB 2.0? If so, you need to find a USB 1.0 cable because the 2.0 cable may not work with the older sony prs-300.
