hi im new to this forum and software. i learned about it from a book im reading right now. so i downloaded it. i wanted to know if i submit a novel that im currently writing on to the software and convert it to a e reader format. would that make it live so that others can read it. or will it just be available for me only. the book is not done yet and i don't want my work to go live yet. if someone can please help me with this it would be very appreciated.

Hello finess23,
welcome to mobileread. To be able to help you, we will need more information from you. Which software are you talking about? Calibre? KindleGen? Sigil? Something else? General there are two kinds of conversions: offline and online. The offline conversion needs a program to run on your machine. You feed it a file and get back a file in a different format. They do not summit books to publisher. The online conversion is mostly a service of publisher. It means that you can summit a file in a format they do not sell and they will convert it to the needed formats. Since you are summiting a file to a publisher, it will then be published. For some publisher there are ways to keep the converted files from being published, but that differs between the publishers. |

Calibre converts the document in your computer (e.g. a Word document in RTF format) into another document in your computer (e.g. an epub or mobi file, depending on what you choose for the output format).
The document stays in your computer and no one else can see it or access it. It doesn't automagically get sent into bookshops for people to browse and see and buy. You can then view the converted document in your computer or transfer it to your ereader. Again, neither action will not automagically turn it into a book that other people can browse or buy from bookshops. So, yes, go ahead and convert it if you want to see how it looks! |
