cancel the bulk overwriting of the "author" , possible or not?

Hi,
maybe it's not polite to start with an help cry, but ... such is life.
As I am using calibre for quite a few weeks I am found of it und wouldn't know how to structure my ebooks and using it with my kindle.

Maybe you can help me: here is my problem.

In a moment of not paying enough attention, I marked 5400 books instead of the needed 1600 and replaced the author in the basic-metadata section and clicked on button: auto-sort put automatically.

I didn't change the cover fortunately, so I still can find the originally author and replace it manually.
But imagine: replacing 3800 items is just too much.

by the way, where do I change the language of the program into English in case I need it? at the moment I'm using German language.
I'm using version 0.9.2

thank you very much in advance.

hello friends,

I proudly can tell you that I solved my problem by trying out something different today!!

I converted an original file (in zip-mode) to a .mobi file, because I found out that the mobi file will keep the original author information and not the later added information. (maybe the .zip file does the same, but I didn't try out).

I copied the .mobi files to an seperate file, and deleted the originals in calibre.

then I imported the .mobi-files - and voila - they all had only the original author information documented.

this I did with about 3000 files, because I had changed the information for the other about 500 files before - one by one.

Interface Language is set in Preferences: Look and Feel (3rd item down)

Author Oops:
There is no Bulk mode (re)set metadata from book (would only apply to formats that supported internal metadata) .
In individual metadata mode, select the FORMAT then click the blue i
(Note: this metadata will be what was saved inside the book and may not be your hand crafted metadata in the Library view. It all depends on when/where the internal was updated as Calibre does not normally change the stored book when metadata changes.)

If you have converted the title since the oops all is lost with this method.
next and previous buttons make this fairly fast. You get to see the Cover and Cancel aborts THAT books (if you have not left the record) changes.

hello theducks,

thank you for your help.

unfortunately in my German version of calibre 0.9.2 in the individual mode of "work on meta-data" there is no "format" as you suggested.

I still can overwrite the author with the correct one, but in no way with use the /.

I will go on and by chance at Xmas I might have fulfilled the boring task.

Format is the available book formats in the right pane.

Select EPUB or Mobi then click the blue i (other formats may have less or no metadata)
Clicking the brown book will try and set the Calibre shown cover from that format)

Ouch. It is a little late now, but it is a Good Idea to make a backup of your library frequently, and also directly before trying large operations. You can just copy the whole library folder as described here: http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq....o-i-backup-app.

If your files still contain the metadata (if theducks' method works), you might try to import those 5400 files from your existing library into an empty calibre library, calibre will then read metadata from the files. Create a temporary library somewhere with Switch/create library. You can import the books by selecting "add books from directories including subdirectories, one book per directory" from the add books dropdown. Point it at your original Calibre Library\Author_name.

When finished and cleaned in your new library you delete these 5400 books from your original library, select them in your tmp library and then right click -> Copy to library -> Your original library.

The above method might not work if you don't have good metadata in your source files, but it's worth a try
