Help with Apostrophes
I imported a few hundred text files into Calibre, spending quite a bit of time carefully setting up the author, series etc. I converted them to ePub and imported them into my Sony reader.
Only after doing all the work did I notice that a lot of them were displaying apostrophes on the reader as a question mark. In Calibre's reader they were not displaying at all. I traced the problem to the originator of the text files choosing to use 0x92 as an apostrophe in a lot of the files. ![]() I'm not blaming Calibre for this, But, can anyone suggest how to recover from this without an insane amount of work? Thanks, D |

Should be trivial.
Use a tool to unarchive the ePub files (they're really .zip archives), then use a global search-replace tool which will work on all files w/in a sub-directory to make the change, then re-archive the files back to .ePub. Mac OS X Applescripts for this here: http://code.google.com/p/epub-apples...downloads/list |

Thanks.
However I decided that trying to fix the epubs was thinking about it the wrong way, as getting Calibre to regenerate them is no big deal. And all the work was in establishing the books in the library, with their tags, not in the conversion. I deleted the epubs from the library, leaving the texts in place. I then used Agent Ransack to find all files containing 0x92. I then used Notepad++ to a global replace on the 0x92, changing them to a normal apostrophe. All that's left to do now is reconvert. Thanks everyone for their interest. D |
