Debricking
Hi
My Kindle 3g +wifi is bricked for some time and I'm trying to debrick it using k3flasher. I was albe to upload partition table and kernel, but I'm not able to upload rootfs.bin After some time I'm getting: Code:
sudo ./k3flasher mx35to2_mmc.bin program 0x003C1000 ../kindle/rootfs.bin ... ... ... I: writing 0x00200000 (=2097152) bytes to address 0x161c1000, waiting for completion... LIBUSB_ERROR_NO_DEVICE was the error I got when the RAM kernel was being flaky and giving out....

I do not suspect RAM kernel, because I was able to flash kernel.bin and uboot.bin

I dunno the solution.
but this has to be at least the fourth report of this "device bombs during long operation", not limited to k3flasher users either perhaps there really is a defect raising it's head in some of these devices, or perhaps is is charge related? I assume you charged it to green battery first. you did. Another thought is USB power cutting off after a certain time in windows, turn that off if you haven't already and you use that OS. (EDIT: also not really relevant reading back but I'll leave it here in case it does apply to someone) I run out of ideas there. Good fortune Last edited by twobob; 10-02-2012 at 08:20 AM. Reason: relevance. read the thread with more tea. |

hmm.... your battery is dying really quickly...... You could try using a high powered USB port(my 3 year old motherboard has 10) if you have one... that might be able to power the Kindle....

We really need to add battery condition monitoring to K3Flasher.
The battery management is in the same chip as the UART, so we know the support is there. - - - - Until then, just do the obvious - Divide up the huge file you are trying to flash into pieces small enough to flash between battery re-charges. The posted report tells you where to re-start the download at in both the flash address and the file. |

If you are running ubuntu, I suspect that nmcli is dropping your USB connection. I uninstalled mine to avoid dropped connections (but now I must manually connect to the network after reboot). Alternatively, check out my mntusb script...

Someone posted an image of attaching batteries to a completely dead 3 to fix exactly this issue. might be worth a search for that.
Not sure how to fulfil your slicing idea but doubtless it could be done. with the right numbers, but I have to say: I like the way you think : ) The battery thing looked pretty easy. dd is the traditional *nix tool.
just use the "skip" and "seek" options as required. The posted log tells you where to make the first cut - a few transfers before something times out. The log also lists the updated starting address(es). |
