Is there a way to extract system files from kindle update .bin files
I want to extract the fonts from kindle paperwhite firmware (when they will be released). The reason is that the kindle paperwhite fonts are supposed to be better, so why not use them on a kindle touch! Is there a way to do this?

Yeah, but in this specific cases (fonts), don't expect anything other than a bpatch

They can be easily obtained with K3/K4 files and applying binary diffs gotten from kindletools extraction of the deltas (kindle 4.1.0 and kindle keyboard 3.4). I did that and ended up with the system fonts Caecilia at version 5.40. The latest ones in K5 are at version 5.11. But I have not found a way to use them because that font hack does not allow to use same named fonts with different version. If someone finds a nice way to replace them in the main filesystem then it will work. Last edited by MarvinO; 09-24-2012 at 03:49 PM. |
