Hello from TX

I'm waving hello from the great state of TX. I read (some say too much). I buy lots of books, trade with people I meet online at BookCrossing and BookObsessed, share books with my mother-in-law and daughter, and I placed an order for a Kindle two weeks ago. Since I doubt that mine will arrive before I leave for England on Saturday, I have installed both the Mobipocket reader and eRocket reader onto my laptop. So far, I've only loaded free books (i.e. copyright-free or Creative Commons license) since I can't justify buying commercial content for the PC which cannot be loaded into the Kindle.

Why the Kindle? Because it's from Amazon and it appears that the recently published books I want to buy will be both available and less expensive in Kindle format. After studying everything I could find about the Kindle, I think it will work well enough for me.

I do have a wish list for the whole arena of eBooks. I want someone to come up with technology that provides for lending (both institutional via libraries and personal) and for transfer (gifts, sales, trades). I want the same options for my electronic books that I have for paper ones and books on CD. I want to be able to donate a book to the library. I want to borrow a book from the library when I *know* that I won't want to keep it. I want to share my books with my sister and daughter and mother-in-law without having to give up my reader itself.

So -- that's a little bit about me and a few thoughts thrown into the mix as well. I'm off to read more about devices and content and the people who hang out here. Wave hi if you see me somewhere.
