To the Kindle with special offers owners

I plan on jumping on board and getting the kindle paperwhite wifi model. Do the owners of the Kindle WSO find the ads annoying and obstructive?

Not in the least. Not that there have been any real special offers lately! I rather prefer the variation instead of the dead author approach.

This is referring to a Kindle Keyboard.

I don't even notice the ads. I don't look at the screensaver and I'm too busy trying to start reading that I don't notice the ad on the menu page.

The ads don't shows up when you are reading, only in the book selection page, and when the Kindle is in sleeping mode. Not obstructive at all.

Cool. Thanks for the replies. Looks like I will be getting the $119 model. Now that the ereaders have come down in price, I'm sure many others will cross over and enjoy both B&N and Amazon. I already have an Amazon account so it makes sense to do so.

I'll add my two cents in saying the ads are completely unobtrusive. The tiny strip at the bottom of the home screen is definitely not annoying and barely noticeable.

When you turn the kindle off when reading and then turn it back on does it take you right into the book where you left off? If so then the only time you would see the ads is when you change books. That is assuming you use the cover since the cover turns the device on and off automatically you would not see the screen saver.

EDIT - Convinced myself and changed my order to ad supported and added the cover. I figure it is easy enough to pay to $20 later if the ads bother me. Other good news is that the estimated delivery is now 10-3 instead of 10-11. Bad news is that the blue cover won't be here until 10-31! My wife's pink one will be here on 10-3. Amazon, make more blue!

If you're reading and stop for a while until the screensaver pops up, sliding the power button returns you to the same spot in your book. However, strictly speaking, you can't turn off the K3. If you hold the power exactly 7 seconds, the screen goes blank. When you slide the power switch again, the screen comes on, and you're back in your book. That's as "off" as the K3 will go.

I have a Kindle Keyboard model that was purchased before special offers were an option. I later chose to opt-in and receive the offers. There haven't been any enticing deals for quite a while now, but the ads don't bother me at all.

I still have an OG nook, and will most likely get the new PW. I like to keep my nook in airplane mode to squeeze a little more battery life out of it. Do the ads update in this mode, or will the wifi need to stay on? Although the improved battery life will still feel awesome to me.

Ads port over to your Kindle whenever you have wifi turned on. A set amount are transferred and they're triggered to appear by a timer. If you turn wifi off, you won't receive any new ads; but the ads already on your Kindle will continue to display until they expire.

Currently, my K3 has wifi turned on and my K4 has wifi turned off. The K3 keeps getting ads and the K4 doesn't. In fact; I had the wifi turned off on my K4 for so long, it no longer has any ads on it. But as soon as I turn wifi on to transfer some new books over, it'll fill up with a bunch of new ads.

Every so often (perhaps once a month) you get a screensaver saying "Connect to the wireless network to download new offers" or something like that. At that point I turn on 3G (or connect to WiFi) for a few minutes to let it download the latest batch of ads, then turn it off again. The ads cycle within each "batch", so you still get the variety.
