Replacement Kindle, contrast not as good
My year old Kindle Keyboard recently developed the commonly seen diagonal crack in the bezel, Amazon were really cool about it and sent me a replacement within days but unfortunately the new Kindle's screen does not seem as vibrant as my old one.
Whites are darker and blacks are lighter, it's subtle but I could clearly tell the difference so I called Amazon and they sent me another...same problem ![]() If I had to guess I'd say that they've reduced the manufacturing standards now that the new models are available, has anyone else experienced this? So far it looks like I'm keeping my cracked Kindle and waiting to see what the PaperWhite looks like in person. |

Call Amazon an tell them. They should allow you to send back both and send you yet another.

They probably would but I'm a bit burnt out over it, I'll see how I feel about it in a week or so, I'll hang back and wait for a few more replies to this thread

I really doubt they've "reduced the manufacturing standards." This has been an issue with eink screens all along. The contrast varies from unit to unit, and not just with Kindles.

Best to call them now. They know that eInk varies and that even the K3 can have this issue. I had a similar issue with my K4 when I got it. They replaced it with no problems. The next day I had a new one. It was better than the first but not as good as my K3.

E-ink screens vary quite a bit. Another possible reason, if they replace with refurb units, those might possibly contain a higher percentage of darker, less contrasty screens because of other users returning screens they didn't like.
I'd call and try again. My first Sony T1 had a very visibly darker and less contrasty screen than my husbands T1, I got a refund and later ordered another that was fine. |
