ISBN Question

I just finished an epub for a client of mine, besides the epub he needed a mobi and a pdf. I generated these thru Calibre and now need to know the following.

Client then gave me ISBN number for the book he generated and I entered it in the metadata inside the epub. The client then generated 2 more ISDN #s and wants me to add these to the mobi and pdf.

Since I do all all file conversions in Calibre I need to know how to add the ISBN for a mobi, pdf and any other output file the client chooses. I read somewhere that Amazon / Kindle uses there own format for tracking books thru their system but need to confirm all this info as I cannot give the client his files without the proper info.

I originally posted this in the Sigil forum by mistake.

anybody?

thx

RD

My guess is to (first save the Good, Real EPUB) then change the ISBN (in Sigil) for the Conversion Master and make the format it represents.

Repeat for each format

Thats what I needed to know!

So take the master epub, save in Sigil reopen in Sigil change ISBN # save with different name and so on. Use each different name to convert to format needed in Calibre correct?

thank you

That is my WAG
There may be a simpler way, but quick results do count

What we've done in similar cases is to include all ISBN variants on the colophon page in the contents in this manner (the unspecified one is the paper version):

ISBN XXX-XX-XXXXX-01-5
ISBN (PDF) XXX-XX-XXXXX-30-5
ISBN (MOBI) XXX-XX-XXXXX-31-2
ISBN (EPUB) XXX-XX-XXXXX-32-9

Then we just change the ISBN in Calibre prior to converting to each format to get the metadata right in each file, that way we don't have to change the content.

The customer is usually happy with listing all ISBNs in all versions when we point out that the recipients of the files might want to be aware of the other formats.
