Covers and metadata after convert
I don't know whether I should put this in the 'conversion' sub-forum or if I even have the correct title so please bare with me.
I spent the last few days converting various-format ebooks to epub for the Kobo using Calibre. Everything went well. This also included a lengthy period of downloading and updating the metadata and covers. For transferring to the Kobo I simply attached the Kobo to the PC and copied all the dot epubs to the Kobo folder. In Calibre all the covers and data was there - NO PROBS. On my friend's machine (since I was doing this for her) not all the covers which I downloaded were there. An ideas what might have gone wrong? Thanks |

I believe that unless you either do an ePub -> ePub conversion OR use one of the other plugins (and I forget which one) that the cover does not get updated and placed within the ePub file.

If the files were copied using OS level copies rather than using Calibre's capabilities (e.g. "Send to Device" or "Save to Disk") then there is no guarantee that the epub files will have been updated to have the Calibre metadata and covers.

Thanks Peter and Itimpi.
I've followed the save to disc suggestion which resulted in the files (epub, metadata and cover) being saved with their respective novel name. My last question (hopefully) is: Are the covers part of the epub file (or so I thought) or do I need to transfer all 3 files (for each book) to the Kobo. Thanks again |

You only need to copy the epub across to the Kobo. It gets the cover it uses from epub. It doesn't actually extract the image for the cover. It uses the first page in the epub.
