Is otf font being supported in KT system?
These days, many fonts come out with otf format. I was wondering if KT can render those otf fonts properly.
Wanna give it a try. |

Not directly, for the device fonts.
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=convert%20otf%20ttf ![]() It seems that it is possible to embed otf fonts in KF8 though. I'll spare you the other lmgtfy link (searching for "kf8 otf"... first hit): http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle%2...x2PLUDJKNE8STF |

Sadly, lmgtfy is not as useful as it once was.
As an example, my car was getting an error code, and no amount of googling it on MY COMPUTER found any useful results in many pages of google results. I took it to a repair shop and it turned out to be something simple. The automobile mechanic was upset at me for wasting his time and said I should have Googled it. He did on his laptop, and the first page was filled with useful results. Google results are now customized to what they THINK are your interests based on your PAST usage. This can make if very DIFFICULT to find NEW stuff. Your lmgtfy link may not work for the OP. The (Google et al) Filter Bubble:

But, then again, it may work just as expected.
The point made by GM is that the results may vary by user-specific local settings and user-specific ways in which the search engines are accessed. I have "user preference filtering" disabled in my systems, evidently GM does not. This isn't the first time he has drawn our attention to this subject and his point that there might be "local" variations in the results remains true. Here is one place to get started (for the published choices): http://support.google.com/websearch/...n&answer=35892 Last edited by knc1; 08-16-2012 at 09:02 AM. |

Errm, the Kindle *2* supported OTF fonts. FreeType does. You might have to use a custom freetype lib to avoid issues/crashes, and may have to *rename* the files to .ttf, but unless they did something nasty on the Touch, Type1 & TTF fonts *should* work fine, and that means OTF fonts will too, whichever curve types they're using :?.
Some OTF-only extended layout features from Opentype might not work, but for basic Latin languages, that shouldn't be an issue. |

I tried to use MS-Yahei, a Chinese font which comes as the default font for Windows Vista and 7. It is an OpenType Font with TrueType Outlines as is described in the file. And it works like a charm. |

@johnleo: Thanks for checking
![]() FWIW, OT fonts with PostScript (might also be called Type 1 or cubic bézier curves) outlines should work fine, too. I'm using a couple on my K3. Last edited by NiLuJe; 08-16-2012 at 11:25 AM. |

Yup, that explains the differences.
As they introduced various "Google knows best" features over time, they made them default to enabled for everyone that had older sets of settings. Which makes a sort of sense - They couldn't ask tens of millions of people to: "Please enable our newest: 'stick our nose in your business' feature" and expect people to enable the newest <whatever>. |
