Multiple selection of books in Adding

I have a vast number of books (over 1000) that I want to add to the database of Calibre. The database is still empty. There are 2 problems that I encounter:

1. When using cmd+A (yes, I'm using an Apple book), nothing is selected when I have to enter a selection in the window "Select books". Normally a cmd+A (or in Windows cntr+A (I think)), yields into the selection off all files in a given directory. Now, I just keep the shift down and manually select al files by pressing the "down" arrow key.

2. At first, the first 200 books are added at an acceptable speed. Later the addition takes more time the next book title is added; later on more than 15 seconds for each title upon 30 to 45 seconds per title. I suspect that each time a title is added, Calibre checks if the title is already available. On the other hand, I never pressed the "Open" button so the database should still be un-updated.

Can somebody inform me if this is normal behavior?

Matt

Ctrl-A works in windows.

Try selecting one book in the list before tapping cmd-A. The selec box may have lost focus

This appears to be an OS issue. I use Windows and this option works as expected.

You might want to try either of the second two options, Add books from directories, including sub-directories, either option just asks you to select a directory not individual books.

Thank you both for your reply. Seems that the second suggestion was right: I now can add all books without any problem. I still think that the cmd+A option does not work for OS-X; the select box does have focus but files are not selected. I've tried that (of course) also but did not work for me.

AFAIK Calibre calls the standard file select box for the O/S.

Does CMD-A (still) work for other programs (and does the box look the same)?

I've tried several scenarios where cmd+A can be used:

1. Open main library: all books are selected when pressing cmd+A
2. Open library of attached Sony PRS-T1: all books are selected when pressing cmd+A
3. Open "Add books", select "Add books from single directory", navigate to map where titles are stored, try to select all titles by pressing cmd+A: cmd+A does not work. Due to the nature of other options in "Add books", other "Add" options seem to work like expected, that is, multiple directory selection is not possible and the multiple selection is disabled. Version software: 0.8.62.

Cmd+A still works for other application like "Finder" and the layout is as expected.
