News formatting differs from Sony to Sony

Hello,

I am a big fan of Sony Readers and Calibre, especially being a Linux user. So, I've had a few Sonys of different types, and use Calibre to download newsfeeds from time to time (I particularly enjoy The Economist, I don't know if it makes a difference).

Well, when I use a prs-650, I get a page with the text in the middle (of course), and menus on the bottom line that allow me to move to the next article, previous article, or table of contents. This happens at every page.

With the prs-t1 I do not get that, instead it is one of two options, either no menu whatsoever, and you can only skip to the next article at the beginning of an article, or a menu at the bottom with only one link to the table of contents. It is not clear to me what makes each of these options active.

I'd like to have the menu from the prs-650, being able to skip to the next article at any point. Is there a way of configuring that ? I've searched in all options on Calibre, but didn't find it.

Does anyone else have this problem ? Is there a solution ?

Thanks,
Sergio.

If those links are in the book, they should be visible in the T1 as well. If you go to 'Navigate page', do you get the table of contents button on the right?

Yes, I do. So, the links are in the book, I guess.

I just managed to power up my prs650 and I see that there are two lines in a heading of the text, the first says the periodic name, the second says the section name and article name. The footing of the page contains four links, previous article, section top, table of contents, next article. On the prs-t1 you get a full page of text without these borders, links only on the first page of the article.

Yes, that sounds right - for a book, you'll generally get a page (or more) of links, with each link taking you to the beginning of that chapter.

And now the question is, why does Calibre format it differently for different models of reader ? Where can I see (and change) this configuration?

Er - pass.
Maybe you'd have more luck asking that in the Calibre forum?

I down loaded new copy of Economist which I have never done before and it had different layout on each page larger area at bottom of page with page numbers and button link to table of contents in page number area. If I clicked on this link took me to table of contents. when I clicked on article it took me to it. Same large area at bottom of each page.

Later if found out this strange format problem was because T1 was still processing the periodical which has lots of links and meta data taking time to finish processing. Once this is complete it is looks just like I'm use to seeing. Maybe this is what your seeing?

Well, thanks LuvReadin, you've been helpful. You are right, maybe I should have asked it there in the first place. I'll go there now...

I don't think I've seen this problem, but I'll check today and see if it changes after a while.
