Replacement for Jetbook JB5

Hi, All,

I have broken the screen on my Jetbook whilst on holiday . I have become completely addicted to ebook reading, and urgently need a replacement.

The things I really liked about the Jetbook were its size (easy to fit in the side pocket of a pair of cargo-trousers); the full-size SD-card slot; the speed of page-turning (I hated the lag when the html file was too big); and the length of time between battery charges (five or six days depending on use).

What irritated a bit was that none of the buttons fell easily to hand (I have big hands) and that there were only two positions for them (slider at the left or at the top, depending on the rotation).

I have no need for a colour screen, but page turns must be close to instantaneous (so does this rule out e-ink?) and the device does not need to be new (I'm quite happy to buy second-hand again). I'm happy to root a device if it would make it fit my requirements.

All my ebooks are .epub file (converted where necessary via Calibre), so I'm not particularly bothered about formats supported (side question - should I be?)

I don't know if such a thing exists but, if it does, the ability to edit files when I find typos etc would be a great advantage (I spend as much time editing files in Sigil as I do reading!)

So, the big question - should I try to find another JB, or is there something else that fits the bill?

Thanks for your time.

Jeremy

I've been browsing around and come across the Entourage Pocket Edge (PE). It looks interesting, with the two screens and dual-function. I know the company no longer exists, but does anyone know how well it fits my requirements (for instance, if it will run Sigil, it would make that editing issue a lot easier)?

Hmmm, okay - I clearly didn't make my request clear enough to be interesting. However, if anyone is interested, I decided not to go with the Pocket Edge due to the problems with the white screen, which seems to be a problem with the ribbon cable.

Does anyone have any thoughts about the Kobo Touch?

No thoughts about the Kobo touch except some like it & some don't. I have friend who loves hers. I like my Sony readers, both the PRS 350 & the T1. But the buttons may be an issue for you since they are kind of small & at the bottom of the reader.

Thanks, Pomtroll. I tried the Sony readers and somehow they didn't feel quite right in my hands - as you suggested, the buttons were a bit small and oddly positioned for me.

I have acquired a Kobo Touch for better or worse. Reading the forums, it seems like a bit of a Series Landrover - lots of work to keep it going, but a lot of fun! Let's see how we go.

I'll certainly keep everyone posted! I'm beginning to wonder what I've got into after reading the fiasco with the 2.0.0 firmware update ... It looks as if I'll be a fixture on the relevant Kobo threads!
