Sony PRS T1 and HTML
This may be a bit of a noob question but... the Sony PRS T1 is top of my list for replacing my (dead) Bebook neo. The huge advantage of the Bebook was the number of file formats supported so I have sh*tloads of stuff in epub, mobi and webpage text archives.
I've already had to choose between the Herculean tasks of converting all my mobi to epub, or all my epub to mobi. What I was wondering was if there was a hack to enable the T1 to read HTML (well, it has a browser for buying books...) when reading from the SD card, which is what I usually do, rather than using the onboard memory. Or does anyone think the upcoming T2 might support HTML (OK, crystal balls out...NOW!) And, yes, I know I can use Calibre to convert files but, seriously, there's a lot! I'd be grateful for any suggestions, thoughts, vague ideas, discussion. Etc ![]() |

No idea if the T2 will support HTML. I really think your best bet is to convert. I know it seems like a huge job, but Calibre will do it all for you, and you can just leave it to do its stuff - based on my personal experience, I wouldn't convert more than about 50 books at a time, but that will still let you get on with other things while it churns away in the background.

I don't know about any simple hacks, but if you root it and install CoolReader, you can use it to read HTML (and a handful of other formats as well).

It will open the htm/html document as a web page in the browser... not as a book... as already suggested, you should convert using calibre it can do html-epub very quickly and you can just load up a whole folder and let it rip... but it is much safer and simpler than rooting the device, you always run the risk of bricking it

I think this is what the Bebook would do - if the T1 will do that automatically then there's no problem. Bricking the reader would be my big concern. Thanks. |
