Setup 'ends prematurely' on windows XP

Upon installing either 0.8.60 or the older 0.8.55 , I'm greeted with the following error 'after' installation.

Quote:

calibre Setup Wizard ended prematurely because of an error

calibre Setup Wizard ended prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified. To install this program again at a later time, run Setup Wizard again. Click the Finish button to exit the Setup Wizard.

Not sure what to try/do, as it's a flat-out failure with no useful error messages.

Any advice much appreciated. I'm happy to run a 'debug' installation to test things if one of the calibre team wants to provide a binary/msi file.

Portable 'installation' works perfectly, many thanks. If it helps with debugging, I can assert that it was neither due to download corruption nor antivirus/security meddling. Registry corruption I suppose may be possible, but nothing else has had issues.
