Kobo Original Cannot Upgrade

Im hoping someone out there can help me. I've a Kobo Original that I've just unburied from the bookshelf. I wanted to load a few new books for vacation. I brought the first one and I couldn't get it to sync onto my Kobo from Kobo Desktop. I read that I might need to upgrade to Version 1.8, so I did so - still no luck. I read that I might need to delete my original desktop and download the new one from the Kobo website and try upgrading again - still no luck. Every time I do the key combination to 'reset' all I get is the blank screen and nothing happens from there. I've left it till the battery goes flat - so Im not thinking it will happen instantly! I've tried several times and it just wont work! Can anyone shed any light?
I should probably mention that Im using Mac too!

Have you got this working yet? Have you tried charging your Kobo (with a wall charger) for a while first before resetting?

No I havent got it working and I have found another anomaly - my Kobo will show my menus, book lists etc and the front covers of my books but when I go 'into' the book ie turn the pages - they are all empty!!

I am having an issue updating the firmware on my Kobo Touch. In some cases, it seems to install, but like you are seeing, the book pages appeared empty. When I looked, the font had been set to "Document Default". When I selected another font, the page displayed OK. There were still issues with the update as there were only two or three fonts available.

Thanks Davidfor - I Tried changing the font on my original - I dont get quite the same options as the Touch and it still hasnt helped

I think IM going to have to ditch my Kobo and buy something else. Very disappointing - its only a couple of years old and I didnt use very much.

I should probably mention that Im using Mac too!

Contact Kobo Customer Care at help@kobobooks.com and state that you need an update for the Kobo Original eReader and they will Escalate this to allow Kobo to send you a Micro SD Card with the Update on it.
