Apple Fixed Layout Question
I have a template that I have been using to do fixed layouts. Works fine but now I have to do a book that has hyper links on a few pages. I really need to know how I go about this as I know I would have to attach a css page to the html and I would need the html to go on top go the background fixed image.
Any pointers here? Thx you guys are great! HI |

You have a template for doing fixed-format books--so I assume you mean a template you downloaded somewhere, is that right? Images only, no read-along or audio, etc.? And you need to put hyperlinks in...what? In the image? Do you have your images and text separately, with the text floated atop the image, or do you simply put page images in, that already have the text on them, as part of the image? This is for Apple's iBooks format? if it's for Apple, you must have text separately from the image, correct, as they won't take books that have "images of text" as opposed to actual text? Assuming all that is correct, you just put the link in the text. Like any other link. I'm not following the CSS question? If you're doing a fixed-format book, you already have CSS. Can you elaborate a bit more? Hitch |

Yes, a downloaded template just images no read aloud. The hyperlinks need to be placed OVER the image on the page but each hyperlink would be in a different spot on each page. I would also need to create a TOC.
The source file is an InDesign document and the plan is to export the file as jpg's and place them on the pages within the Apple template I have thx Hi |

as Hitch mentioned, if there's a substantial amount of text on each page, then the text needs to be 'live', i.e., not embedded in the image. otherwise the book may be rejected by Apple.
to make changes to the book after you've generated it, you'll need to unpack it and edit the html. |

the short of it is, the text has to be live text, not text embedded within the image, otherwise, you cannot make the text into links (or some text into links). It's as simple as that. The "template" you have may or may not accommodate that. Most of the templates I've seen floating around the Net are simply for slapping images into a pre-defined page layout format, with no live text. Obviously, I don't know how you obtained yours, or if you made it...you didn't say. But, the bottom line is, you won't be able to make this book with embedded text into the jpgs, if I understand the question correctly. Your text will have to be live, and correctly floated atop the background images, so that you can create the linked text portions. That's how you'll have to do it. You'll create the links in the HTML. Hitch |
