Seeking help from PB owners about Power-off bmps

Hi Pocketbook owners, I am looking for some info about Power-off logos on your own PB device(s). The background to this request is that I am the creator of a Calibre plugin (back in Jan 2011) which provides a simple, quick way for Calibre users to copy book covers, of the correct shape, size and format, to the appropriate internal memory directory so they can be used as power-off/standby images. The plugin's current version supports Sony, Kindle and Nook devices. I thought it also supported some Pocketbook devices - I own a PB360 - however it has recently come to light that it needs more work to improve Pocketbook support for models other than PB360. This is why I'm here to ask for your help. If you have a few minutes to spare, I would be very grateful if you could test 3 bmp images for me. They are in the 2 attached zip files - just pick the zip whose name best suits the screen-size of your device - 600x800 or 824x1200. If you have a PB model with a different screen-size, I'd also like to know. The 3 bmps should be manually copied to your logo directory (/system/logo on my PB360) If I can get results from at least one example of every PB model I'll be very happy although I suspect my plugin is not suitable for the PB700 IQ model. To give an idea of what I'm looking for, here are the results from my own PB360 using the Settings - Appearance - Power-off logo feature (not the Photos image viewer app)
Thank you in advance Jackie |

Hi, haven't tried your pics, but I also had problems with power-off logos I remember the 6" PRO series needed 800x600, less than 96DPI and 256 colours (8 bits/pixel), on my 622 I use the attached one without problems, so no idea about the newer models or latest FW. BTW, I use IrfanView to create logos |

The Calibre covers will already exist as jpgs. I'm just trying to find out how to best convert them to bmp using existing internal Calibre subroutines not applications on the PC/Mac. Actual findings versus documented theory is what I'm looking for.

Will continue this conversation in PM, in a moment. As you know from our PMs, it should be simple to improve the bmps to the level of axxx_16.bmp for the PB models which need them, if this thread can supply a few more answers. Thanks also to rkomar and preempalver for taking the time to help

On 622 both sizes work without remarkable differences in either 8 or 16 bit, but colour is still off. Problem with 622 is you don't get a page refresh when turning off, so the look very much depends waht you have opened before shutting down (for test sake I used a blank page)

@troll05 Thanks. BTW, following up on your previous post, I tried some bmps with a much higher dpi than 96, namely 299. They seem to display perfectly well. Even the bmp you posted has dpi=99. |

As I saild, I experienced the lower DPI only on my 602, 622 has different display drivers ,that seems to make the difference

Based on the info received and my own PB360 testing, I've updated the Copy Cover plugin to send either 8- or 16-colour greyscale bmps to /system/logo based on which PB model Calibre thinks is connected.
I don't know whether 8-col is the better option for the PB301, but in the absence of any info posted here, I've decided to leave it the same as it has always been. FYI... paola was good enough to beta-test the new release on her PB903. As with my own PB360 there were no problems encountered with greyscale bmps with dpi>96. Thanks to those who contributed.
