That's because Kindle Singles are an imprint of Amazon and requires more redtape than normally self-publishing on the Kindle. This one is published by Anchor.

Looking forward to Straub's book though.

They have it on Mile 81 and Throttle, published by S&S and Harper Collins respectively. Seems like they just slap it on any e-short.
