Steve White

Short Question: I am considering buying a copy of Steve White's book Insurrection. Do you think its worth the $6? Do you like his writing style?

Long question: I participated in two baen monthly monthly bundle threads and as a part of the bundle I received the fifth in the insurrection series. Out of curiousness and a deisre to read the earlier books before the later books I downloaded the only member of the series from the baen free library. Unfortunately that's book number two and I am hesitant about buying book number one because I have not read any of his books before. Do you like his writting?

Actually, it's the Starfire series.

Anyway, Insurrection is available for free at...

Short answer, Yes. Here is the link the cd, you want the Starfire series. The reading order is book one of the Stars at War(CRUSADE), then book two of Stars At War II(INSURRECTION), then book two of the Stars At War(In Death Ground), then book one of Stars at War II(The Shiva Option) and Exodus. That is the order for the first five books of the series. Thr first four books where co-authored by David Weber.

The Starfire series in reading order...
  1. Crusade (Humans Vs religious fruitcakes who believe that Earth/Terra is "holy" and must be liberated")
  2. In Death Ground (Humans + allies Vs hive-mind Bugs which eat everything)
  3. The Shiva Option (Second and final part of the Bug War)
  4. Insurrection (Humans engage in civil war)
  5. Exodus (Human worlds invaded by species which really does reincarnate)
  6. In Extremis (Part two to Exodus)

If I have the reading order correct then its the second half of Worlds at War II, first half of World's at War I, World's at War II then finishing with World's at War I second half. I have both of those files and I am starting the first of the books (Insurrection).

But you don't have the reading order correct.

I understand now. After I look at the fifth imperium I see I am supposed to read the books in the same order that the books have them in: Worlds at War I first half then second half then Worlds at War II first half then second half.

Books 1 and 2 are in "The Stars at War"; books 3 and 4 are in "The Stars at War II".

Correct - just read them in order: Stars at War, Stars at War II, Exodus, Extremis.

Problem was that I got a copy of Extremis in a baen bundle, but did not have any of the books that came before so now I have an understanding of what I need to read and the only remaining book that I need buy is a copy of Exodus.

While it would be nice to pay a little money to Baen, the Exodus ebook is also at The Fifth Imperium.

The good thing is that by the time you get to In Extremis, you'll know you like the series and pay for it.
