The "The" problem

On Tweaks, changed both "Control sorting of titles and series in the library display" and "Control formatting of title and series when used in templates" to "strictly_alphabetic".

But The Long Earth still sorts under "the"

Did I do this backward?

ETA: many books starting with "The" or "A" sort properly, ignoring those words, but there are still a couple that don't sort right. how can I fix this?

edit metadata and change the value in the title sort field.

The (tweak) rule applies to 'When you Add' a book.
Once it is there (metadata), it will not change on its own.
Time to warm up the ol' fingers and do as Kovid suggests...Edit the Title.

ah, I see. That's why some sort properly and some don't. I gotta note that!

The Quality Check plugin has a Check Metadata -> Check title sort option. I don't know if it will honor your tweaks, but it will either show the strictly_alphabetic or the standard sorted titles and you can flip what is shown by adding not to the resulting search bar.
